Work package 1 Overview on SRF production practices (planting material, harvesting, transport logistics etc.), state of the art of research, forms of usage of the dendromass and of the economic framing conditions. Assessment of most relevant differences, advantages and risks of SRF practices at 1) country level as well as -- in a more concise form -- at 2) global scale. Extraction of best practices and evaluation on their broader applicability and transferability.Work package 2 Assessment of the conditions specific to CDM countries (focus on Brazil, India, P. R. China, African countries) with regard to eligible planting material, crop and field maintenance procedures, the need and possibility for irrigation etc. Analysis of the delicate issue of the competition 'dendromass ? food production' which is much more sensitive in CDM areas.
Work package 3 Integration of the project with other SRF, agroforestry, agricultural and forestry based initiatives throughout the entire project period. Invitation of stakeholders to participate in an implemented Stakeholder Advisory Panel (participation on a voluntary basis) and in the 2 project workshops as speakers or participants. Targeted stakeholders as well come from the field of CDM/JI project development.
Work package 4 Elaboration of EU SRF guidelines and standards for land use management for farmers and European CDM/JI project developers. Seeking consensus on recommendations of best practices provoking different views among project participants -- potentially reaching a certain level of disagreement. Limited disagreement is a calculated means for identifying research needs in wp5. Reaching a final minimum agreement among partners in order to have a sound basis for the guidelines.
Work package 5 On the basis of the outputs of wp4 drafting of a description of the most pressing R&D needs by research subareas. Transformation of draft to a SRF R&D agenda with focus on CDM/JI countries and on the needs of developing countries (using results from wp2). Input procedure open to all relevant stakeholders identified in wp2 and wp3.
Work package 6 Dissemination of results via 2 workshops, the Benwood web-site, direct contacts and mail shots to organisers of international events to have project participants as speakers there, the publication of a brochure including the developed guidelines and standards and the elaboration of a DVD containg film clips, photographs on the most relevant processes of the SRF production chain provided for local training of farmers.
